Off-Road Grand Prix is now TORC, THE Off-Road Championship Series™ (TORC series)

Crandon, WI (February 6, 2009) - The former Off-Road Grand Prix series has been renamed TORC, THE Off-Road Championship Series. TORC continues to move forward in developing the premier off-road racing series.

Series owner and Supercross legend Ricky Johnson stated, “One of the key components to unifying the world of off road racing is to build a marketable series that brings real value to the sponsors and the drivers. Consistent major network coverage of the excitement of this sport will deliver the exposure needed to energize, grow, and unite an already strong fan base. The action on the track is unparalleled by any other racing series. The name change to TORC gives us a strong, recognizable brand identity that speaks to the speed and muscle on the track. There is a strong group of high-profile sponsors that have captured the vision of what we are building and we are all working together to lay a sustainable foundation for the best series possible, not just for 2009, but for the long term.”

At the beginning of the week of February 9th an official announcement is planned to name the series title sponsor along with a select group of premier sponsors. TORC racing will be officially sanctioned by USAC and is their exclusive short course off-road racing series.

Talking about the sponsors, Johnson said, “It’s really been a great experience to see this group of sponsors come together to support this effort. I’ve put my heart and soul into this and to see the sponsors work together gives me a strong indication of the success we can have with TORC. Everyone is pulling for the same goals. It’s a new day in off-road racing.”

The TORC Series brings together the best of Midwest short course off-road racing with exciting new west-coast venues. TORC has exclusive rights for premier events at legendary tracks such as Crandon International Off-Road Raceway in Crandon, WI, and Bark River International Raceway near Escanaba, MI. Currently a total of 8 points-race weekends plus 2 sportsman weekends are planned. The season kicks off May 15, 2009 at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix Arizona.
