Perris Preview: TORC Championships On the Line, Inaugural Season Winds Down
Corona, CA (September 21, 2009)-The Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL returns to the West Coast for the final two weekends of thunderous action. The series will make its final appearance at Perris Auto Speedway for the 2009 season this Friday and Saturday, September 25th and 26th.
"With the season coming closer to and end, the battles on track will continue to get more fierce and drivers will be willing to drive more aggressively," stated PRO Light driver Casey Currie. "I expect to see a lot of drama going into the finale in Las Vegas." Currie, who sits in fifth in points, just ten points out of the top three, will definitely be one of the drivers putting it all on the line.
In the AMSOIL PRO 2WD class the top spots are equally as close, so expect to see a lot of action here as well. Ricky Johnson holds the points lead, with Todd LeDuc only two points behind. Johnson is also within reach of Rob MacCachren, who is eight points away from taking the championship. "I need to stay on top of the podium and beat Ricky in every round I possibly can," exclaimed Todd LeDuc. "I want this championship just as much as he does, and I will be there hard charging on his bumper trying to take the points lead away every chance I get."
In TORC's premier class-the Kumho Tires PRO 4x4, the championship will be a huge undertaking, as Rick Huseman has a twenty point lead over Kyle LeDuc and a forty two point lead over third place Johnny Greaves. This will be a hard task for Kyle, but it can be done- "Kyle LeDuc has been so fast the last couple of rounds," as Rick Huseman reflected back over the season. "We have been fast as well, but at the same time I feel like I could have finished better than I did in two rounds this season. Hopefully I didn't leave the window open for LeDuc, I feel like if I stay consistent for the next four rounds of racing then I can take the championship home."
In addition to the online broadcast efforts of DirtNewz.com's Live at TORC and USAC Live Race Day Coverage, ESPN Sports will bring the Perris/TORC event into everyone's house with a television, airing the race on Sunday, October 4th, at 11:30am EST.
